Reconnect with simplicity
Lawn Chicks
Start living sustainably—with chickens
Add a touch of sustainable living and homegrown goodness to your life. Raising a backyard flock of chickens isn’t just for the countryside—it’s increasingly possible, and even essential, for urban and suburban dwellers. In fast-paced environments where stress and disconnection often dominate, chickens offer a natural way to slow down and reconnect. Beyond the joy of fresh eggs, these engaging birds provide a direct link to your food source and encourage an environmentally conscious lifestyle by reducing food waste, controlling pests, and creating nutrient-rich compost for your garden. They also bring surprising levels of entertainment and companionship, becoming quirky household additions and offering meaningful educational opportunities for children of all ages.
The challenges of raising chickens
Raising chickens, while rewarding, comes with several challenges that require thoughtful solutions. A primary concern is providing adequate and secure housing, as chickens need enough space both inside their coop and out in the run to stay healthy and thrive.
Coops must be built with sturdy materials and tamper-resistant locks to deter predators like raccoons and foxes, which pose a constant threat at night. During the day, aerial predators add yet another risk when chickens are allowed to free-range.
Beyond safety, owners must commit to daily care, including feeding, watering, egg collection, and cleaning the coop to manage waste. Regular cleaning is essential to prevent pests and reduce the risk of disease, such as bacterial infections and parasites. On top of that, depending on your location, local ordinances and potential conflicts with neighbors over noise, odor, coop placement, or free-ranging can complicate the experience.
But here’s the good news: the Lawn Chick was designed to remove those barriers. With its predator-resistant run, easy-clean design, automated mobility, and convenient access for food, water, and eggs, the Lawn Chick makes raising chickens possible for anyone—even those who have never kept hens before. It turns what can feel overwhelming into something fun, healthy, and simple.
I love chickens
I’m Valerie. By day I am a financial planner but any spare second I find is dedicated to my love of chickens. I didn’t know a thing about building coops or raising chickens when I got my first flock in 2016. My first few coops were not what you call pretty but each time I build a new one, I learn a little more: how to make it more secure against predators, how to access the inside easier, where my chickens like to hang out…and I continue to learn more.
In 2024 I found myself in between jobs with three months to kill so I let curiosity rule the day. I saw that traditional chicken tractors are boring, clunky, and require constant monitoring to prevent bare spots in your lawn and keep your hens happy. I thought, how funny would it be if there was a chicken coop rumba thing that moved around the lawn and also provided breakfast? …and Lawn Chicks was born! My actions are largely motivated with joy and fun as the end goal and I hope that is what your Lawn Chick brings to you.
